Growing in Faith· Prayer

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12)

I’m almost certain that, if you are reading this post, you have probably heard this phrase, “Prayer moves the hand of God”. In effect, it’s as if God changes His mind about us based on the prayer we offer. Now, please don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that God doesn’t answer prayer. It’s known through the ages that He does. But what I mean is that, prayer does not change God’s mind or His disposition, nor His character. Whether or not we Prayer does not change God. Rather, Prayer changes us.

What I’m saying is that, God doesn’t change His mind because of our prayer no matter what model or pattern of prayer we adopt. Whether we pray in a format of begging God or we pray with a lot of rich and fanciful words. None of these is going to change God’s mind because He is an unchanging God. And He remains the same, yesterday, today and forever. He is the Alpha and Omega. Meaning, He is the beginning and the end of all things

Now, let me use this scenario as an example, suppose a sinner repents, and ask God to forgive his sins and receives Jesus as Savior. God didn’t have to change His mind about him, because God was never unwilling to grant him the blessing but the sinner was in no position to receive it. However, when the sinner repented or changed his posture towards God, the sinner effectively positioned himself to receive what has always been his blessing all along.

The sad truth in such a scenario is that, if the sinner chooses not to repent but continues living separated from God as a sinner, if he dies in his sin, he will have to face the judgement of God. And this is because, by choice, he refused the free gift of salvation offered by God through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ on the cross for the forgiveness of sin.

Similarly, as born again believers, when we receive the gift of salvation, we are also redeemed and saved from the curse of sin. That is, sickness, disease, poverty, fear, confusion, hell and every evil work of Satan. But, if we don’t live by faith in the word of God, meditating, talking and walking in the Word, we will not see those blessings promised in the bible manifest in our lives, even though by right they belong to us.

The important thing or what I’m trying to emphasize is that, for prayer to be answered or for prayer to change our situations, our prayer must be rooted in the TRUTH. For prayer to be effective it must not be rooted in our feelings, opinions or anything else but, the WORD of God. The Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit is like a blazing light, that can penetrate us and unveil to us whatever we need to repent of. The word of God is also, able to cut away from us what ever is a form of hindrance to receiving answers to prayer.

Some while ago, when I was reading my bible, the the Lord said to me, “The Word will make you.” And I knew, He was encouraging me to continue to meditate and speak the Word over my situation,  because the word of God has the power to create and make me into what I’m believing God to do in my life.

It all boils down to how willing and submissive we are, to allowing God to work in us, and bring us to the position where we can be connected to all He has already prepared for us.

The bible says:

“If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude and lead ourselves astray, and the Truth [which the Gospel presents] is not in us [does not dwell in our hearts].

If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].”     (1 John 1:8-9)

To see the change we want whether it is spiritual, emotional, physical or material, no matter the problem. God’s position is clear, He does not change. It is you and I who need to change.
