“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
— Matthew 1:23
Christmas is often called the most beautiful time of the year—and it truly is. Yet, for many people around the world, it’s possible to celebrate Christmas and still miss the reason for the season. We can become so busy perfecting the Christmas scene—shopping for gifts, organizing family gatherings, cooking special meals, decorating trees, and hanging twinkling lights—that we forget what Christmas is really all about.
Growing up as a child in Africa, Christmas and New Year celebrations were the highlights of the year. Christmas, especially, was a season I eagerly looked forward to. I loved going shopping with my mum to buy a new dress and shoes to wear to church on Christmas Day.
Then came the countdown—gifts, plenty of food and drinks, sweet treats, and a joyful Christmas party to wrap it all up. I was excited about the festivities, even though I didn’t truly understand why we were celebrating.
Although I grew up in a religious environment, I didn’t really know the purpose behind the celebration. I enjoyed Christmas without knowing its deeper meaning.
Christmas Is a Story of Love
The true story of Christmas is the story of God’s love for humanity.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
— John 3:16
Humanity was separated from God, lost with no hope in sight—until God stepped in. Because of His great love and mercy, He chose to rescue us.
The Bible explains it beautifully:
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
— Galatians 4:4–5 (NKJV)
God loved you and me so much that He willingly gave His Son, Jesus—knowing He would have to sacrifice His life for us. The Gospel message is not about religion or perfection; it’s about relationship with God.
God’s Plan to Restore His Family
Christmas is filled with hope and love because it reveals God’s heart—to bring His family back to Himself. After the fall of humanity, God sent Jesus to make a way for us to choose once again to be part of His family.
When we ask Jesus to be our Savior and Lord, we are welcomed home.
“But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.”
— John 1:12 (NLT)
This verse captures the heart of Christmas so beautifully. When we receive Christ, we are adopted into God’s spiritual family. God is all about love, belonging, and family. That is the very reason Jesus came.
‘Immanuel’ God With Us Every Day
The true meaning and power of Christmas go far beyond a seasonal celebration. Christmas reminds us of a powerful truth: we have the life of God within us and the presence of God with us every moment of our lives.
God desires to dwell in our homes and hearts—bringing healing, restoration, peace, and unity. As a loving Father, He wants to be present in every moment of our everyday lives.
Grace, Not Perfection
Before I gave my life to Christ, I believed I had to be perfect for God to accept me. But when I heard the Gospel, everything changed. The message was simple: God gave His only Son to take the punishment for my sins. Jesus paid the price in full, and because of that, I am free from condemnation when I accept His gift of love.
“But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8
Changed Perspective on Christmas
After giving my life to Christ, my perspective on Christmas completely changed. The meaning became deeper than the activities. Suddenly, it all made sense.
Christmas is a reminder of our Heavenly Father’s heart—His incredible love for us. From giving gifts to spending time with family and friends, everything reflects who God is: a loving Father who delights in His children and wants the very best for His family.
An Invitation This Christmas
If you want the Christmas story to be truly special and meaningful, remember this: when Jesus was born, He was born because of you. God came to be with you—every day in this life and for eternity.
Jesus came so you could have a relationship with God and experience the abundant life that only He can give. That is the real joy, hope, and beauty of Christmas. 🎄✨
Invitation to Receive Christ
If you’ve never invited Jesus into your life, Christmas is the perfect time to say yes to God’s love and begin a relationship with Him. Here is a simple prayer to help you take that step of faith. Say the following prayer out loud to express your wholehearted trust to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me so much that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to this world. Thank You for coming close to me—for being Immanuel, God with me.
Today, I recognize that I need You. I admit that I have sinned and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus is Your Son, that He died on the cross for my sins, and that He rose again so I could have new life.
Jesus, I invite You into my heart and into my life. I receive You as my Savior and my Lord. Thank You for forgiving me, for making me new, and for welcoming me into God’s family.
From this day forward, help me to walk with You, to know Your love, and to live the life You created me to live. Fill me with Your peace, Your joy, and Your presence—today and always.
Thank You for the gift of salvation and for the hope of eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, we want you to know something important—you are not alone, and you are deeply loved. Today marks the beginning of a new relationship with God. You are now part of His family, forgiven, accepted, and made new through Jesus.
Take time each day to talk with God in prayer, read His Word, and allow His love to shape your life. Growth is a journey, and God walks with you every step of the way. Remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about staying connected to the One who loves you and has given you new life.
I pray that you know Christ’s joy and peace this Christmas and always. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year🙏
