Growing in Faith

6 May

Layout 1

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:5-8)

Think about something with me for a moment. Imagine a person who boards a ship from England and sets out on the Journey to France then half way into the journey changes his mind and decides to go to Kenya, then mid-way into the journey he changes his mind again, this time for India, a quarter of the way into the journey he changes his mind again and this time aims for Spain…. and on and on he keeps change his mind and the course of his journey. It’s very clear that person is not going to arrive at any destination.

The Bible says a double minded man is “unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind” Such person is confused in his thinking and direction in life, and as such, he cannot receive from God because he is unreliable, lacks focus, direction, and purpose for his life. His faith is not resting in God but in his own reasoning and understanding. The Bible says faith is the “Assurance, Proof or Title Deed” of things hoped for, faith is “Perceiving as Real Fact what is not revealed to the senses.” (Hebrews 11:1)

My dear friend don’t allow pressure of your circumstances, persecution, rejection and more to distract your focus from the promises of God and His plans for your life. Don’t decide based on how things look now in the natural but hold tight to the word of God and keep pressing in for what God has promised you. Walking by faith and not by sight. Remember that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek after Him.

Prayer Confession: Father by your wisdom you laid the foundation of the universe. Lord grant me supernatural understanding, enlighten my eyes to perceive your direction and plan for my life. I come against confusion and doubt in Jesus name. I am not moved by what my physical senses say about my finances, health, family and life. Lord purge my life of every unclean thought, habit and lifestyle. I have the mind of Christ in all things. No weapon fashioned against my destiny will prosper. I silenced every evil voice speaking against my life. Lord restore to me all the years stolen by spiritual caterpillar and cankerworm . By faith I receive favor and supernatural elevation from the pit into my divine destiny. Father let my life be a testimony of your mercy, goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus Might Name. Amen.

Reflection: "Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)
