Growing in Faith· Prayer

“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6).

Many people pray because it’s right to do so. And so, many go to pray without a clear focus and definite objective in mind. We are easily distracted in prayer by many things. As soon as many set themselves to pray, many things begin to float in their minds and their imaginations begin to wonder about in prayer. So they pray for anything and everything that flow into the imagination. And they get up from the prayer session without anything specific in mind that has been prayer for. This is not effective prayer!

To achieve your objective, you have to be definite in prayer. It’s important to have a definite objective in mind, before setting yourself “to pray.” Every situation in the bible where people received their miracles they were specific to the point about what they needed from the Lord.

I love how the Message Bible puts it:

“If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believing, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.” (James 1:5-8).

What do you need the Lord to do for you today? Remember to be Specific and to trust Him for all your decisions.

Prayer Confession:Heavenly Father, my mind is easily occupied with many cares. Help me to focus my attention on a definite thing to pursue in my prayer. Fix my mind on what you want me to pray for. I want to be steady and not be tossed about by doubts and unbelief. Help me to accomplish great things in prayer. In Jesus name. Amen!

Reflection: “I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? (Matthew 6:25-26)
