Growing In God’s Love

Growing in Faith

8 May

“Remember that I told you, A servant is not greater than his master [is not superior to him]. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word and obeyed My teachings, they will also keep and obey yours.” (John 15:20)

Are you constantly worried about what people think about you? Do you have to please people to feel valuable? Let’s take some counselling lesson from Jesus’s life:

  • The Son of God welcomed everyone, the rich, poor, good, bad, jews and gentiles. Eating, drinking and socializing with them. Yet, they accused Him of being too common, a glutton and drunk. (Matt 11:19).
  • Jesus cured a man in a lying position for 38 years because of paralysis, Yet, He was criticized and accused of breaking the law, for healing on the Sabbath day. (John 5:5-9).
  • He was empowered by the Holy Spirit and went every where doing good, setting the oppressed free, healing and restoring lives. Yet again, He was scorned and mocked by His own people. Saying,  “Do we not know him?” “Is he not a mere carpenter, the son of Joseph and Mary from Nazareth?”  After all, he lacked the high religious education of the religious leaders of the day. (Mark 6:2-3).

We have been warned, Jesus said if they persecuted and rejected Him, as His followers, we should expect nothing less. My friend avoid the danger of been trapped by the fear of living to please people, learn to grow in the knowledge of God’s love for you daily. And be anchored in His unconditional love for you.

Prayer Confession:
Father thank you for showing me your great love through Jesus. Help me to grow in the knowledge of your love, to understand the length, breath, height and depth of your immeasurable love. Thank you you that you sing over me, filling me with your joy. I live full of joy today knowing that you delight in me and has set your unconditional love upon me. I have the peace of Christ, I have no fear the Lord is my portion forever and ever. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to impact those you send into my path with your love. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Reflection:"The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high." (Proverbs 29:25).

This is my word for today. We don’t have to pay attention to what people are saying when it comes to our personal relationship with God. As Christians too, persecution is one thing we should expect because from the life of Christ we see that the Christian life is not a smooth road. And like Jesus, we can face this persecutions with the strength that God gives. Thank you Sis for this reminder and encouragement. .
