Don’t Give In To Fear!

Growing in Faith

13 May

fear-is-a-liar-0135

“Then Elisha said, Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will sell for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria!” (2 Kings 7:1).

The most natural reaction when we are confronted with difficult circumstances is to give in to our emotion , letting our feelings take the lead and consequently allowing the spirit of fear to take over us and build up a wall in our mind stopping us advancing. In the verse quoted above, the king of Israel was facing a difficult situation, in the natural the odds were against him, but instead of him taking his needs to God in prayer, he allowed his feelings to take control, all the king could see was lack, famine and people dying from starvation. He gave in to the pressure of the moment, blaming God and His prophet, Elisha, for his problem and ordered the prophet to be killed.

However,  Elisha  had a different focus. He didn’t focus on the impossibilities or even the death threat from the king. The prophet looked beyond his natural ability and focused on the God who rules the universe. And because of that, he was able to master his feelings and rule his fear. Making use of his authority as a prophet, he spoke the Word of God over his situation. Elisha did not accuse God, or questioned God. He declared the Word of Lord, and God brought it to pass! ( 2 Kings chapters 6 and 7).  Beloved, don’t give in to fear, subdue every liar of the devil confronting you in the name of Jesus. God has positioned you for total victory in Christ but you must move forward.

Prayer confession: Thank you Father, that you are my refuge, fortress and deliverer, I will not fear. God has delivered my soul from death and every affliction. I don’t have a timdy spirit, God has given me the Spirit of power, love and a sound mind in everything pertaining to my life. My head is lifted like an eagle above fear and every lie of the devil. I will never give up on my breakthrough, I command every wall preventing my progress to fall in Jesus name! God has positioned me for victory. By faith I put on the whole armour of God over every strategy of satan, no evil scheme will prevail over me and my family. I confess that I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strenght. Nothing can hold me back. I walk in dominion every where I go taking territories, advancing the kingdom of God on earth by the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Might Name. Amen!

Reflection: "In conclusion be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. (Ephesians 6:10-11).

The stories of Elisha, and Elijah, are inspiring ones indeed. I didn’t discover them until I was well into adulthood, and I literally ate them up. Beautiful thoughts on an issue we all face, fear.
